PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has urged Sabahans to vote for a change in the state government in this year’s state election, after getting a “taste” of Sabah’s water infrastructure woes.
Hamzah said the people of Sabah often complain about issues with the supply of electricity and water, as well as the poor road conditions.
“They aren’t just disappointed. They’re angry with the current situation. It so happens that I am spending the week in Sabah, and I had to experience these issues myself.
“The hotel I was staying at in Kota Kinabalu faced water supply issues, with notices issued to each guest. The road from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat was challenging, with potholes aplenty.
“The people of Sabah need change because the current leadership has evidently failed,” the Perikatan Nasional secretary-general said in a Facebook post.
Earlier, Hamzah said PN aimed to contest at least 18 of the 73 seats that will be up for grabs in the 17th state election, which must be held by December.
This means the coalition will have to work with other parties if it wants to form the state government, even if it wins every seat contested.
PN had previously voiced its intention to work with other parties for the state polls, with early talks held with local entities on possible alliances.
The Hajiji Noor-led state government currently comprises Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Pakatan Harapan.
Warisan and Barisan Nasional form the opposition, though BN has expressed its intention to work with PH in the state election.
On the other hand, Warisan has said it would only work with Sabah-based parties for the state polls. - FMT
