PETALING JAYA: PAS and Bersatu must maintain a united front if they want to draw support from any party in the unity government, says Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
He said this was crucial if Perikatan Nasional was serious about its intention to topple the government before the next general election.
He said PN, which has 68 MPs, needs the support of MPs from the government bloc, particularly Umno, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.
“A change of government requires unity. Therefore, we must ensure that PAS and Bersatu are not seen to have any rifts between them.
“We can only make a deal (with other parties to support a takeover of the government) if we are in agreement,” he said at a PN ceramah in Lembah Pantai last night.
Faisal claimed 17 Umno MPs may be in favour of PN’s efforts but the coalition still needs more support.
“Even if we get 23 from GPS, we still won’t have enough. There can only be hope if we get MPs from GRS and the independents. That is the reality,” he said.
Tun Faisal admitted it was hard for PN to topple the government based only on the public gatherings it had been organising lately.
Previously, Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria said in a ceramah in Perak on Dec 22 that his party still has ambitions of taking over Putrajaya before the next general election.
