Go Down To Ground Mps Tell Annuar Musa Over Morning Market Closures

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said the closure of outdoor morning markets in Kuala Lumpur since June 1 did not make sense at all.PETALING JAYA: MPs have urged federal territories minister Annuar Musa to head down to the ground to witness the situation faced by small businesses, especially traders at morning markets which have been asked to close during the movement control order (MCO).
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok voiced her dissatisfaction at the closure of outdoor morning markets in Kuala Lumpur since June 1, saying the rule “did not make sense at all”.
She said the ventilation at open-air morning markets was better than indoor markets or hawker centres and all traders had complied with the SOPs under the supervision of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) before this.
“Annuar Musa, please come down to the field and see the situation at the morning markets for yourself.
Teresa Kok.“Why close markets that have good ventilation?” she asked at a press conference today.
Kok said her office had received complaints from several morning market traders, with compound fines issued to 25 of them so far.
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil expressed concern over traders not getting the help they deserved.
He also claimed the SOPs issued by the National Security Council (MKN) were based on the federal government’s decisions, without considering the issues faced by the people on the ground.
Fahmi Fadzil.“MKN only makes decisions at the meeting table. They do not go down to the ground to see the situation for themselves.
“I urge MKN to come out from the meeting room and come to the morning markets,” he said.
Fahmi also called for RM1,000 monthly aid to be given to traders who were not allowed to operate, adding that many of them had reached out to him for help to resume their business. -
