Annuar Musa Claims No Consensus At Umno Supreme Council Meet

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Annuar Musa has claimed that there was no consensus during an Umno supreme council meeting on Wednesday (July 7).
The Ketereh MP, who is not an Umno supreme council member, claimed that the 25 supreme council members had spoken calmly and honestly when giving their opinions.
“It was clear that there were differing opinions. There was no clear consensus. There was no vote. In fact, the discussions did not touch on whether Umno should leave the Perikatan Nasional government,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday (July 8).
“In other words, the Umno president should explain the real situation. Come out with a true statement,” he added.
The Federal Territories Minister claimed that several members of the supreme council had contacted him after the meeting, saying that Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement did not reflect the meeting’s verdict.
He also said that there were claims that the media statement by Ahmad Zahid was prepared even before the meeting.
“If true, the supreme council has been played out and this is serious,” said Annuar who was removed from the position of Barisan Nasional secretary-general in January.
Annuar also claimed that many Umno division heads were confused by Ahmad Zahid’s statement.
Annuar has in the past championed the need for Umno to work with other Perikatan component parties, going against Ahmad Zahid.
Ahmad Zahid said the party had made the decision to withdraw support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during a virtual supreme council meeting on Wednesday (July 7) night that had stretched till the early hours of Thursday (July 8).
Ahmad Zahid said that among the reasons for the withdrawal of support was Perikatan's failure to fulfil seven requirements outlined by Umno when it was sworn in on March 11 last year as the government.
Umno has 38 MPs including nine ministers in the Perikatan government. - Star
