Four Opposition Parties Say No To Pm S Offer
Warisan, MUDA, Upko and Parti Sarawak Bersatu said they had proposed the confidence and supply agreement last year but Muhyiddin Yassin had rejected it.KOTA KINABALU: Four opposition parties have issued a joint statement rejecting the offer of a bipartisan political cooperation by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin earlier today.
Warisan, MUDA, Upko and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) said they “strongly” reject Muhyiddin’s overtures, saying the opposition parties had from last year proposed the Confidence and Supply Agreement in order to stabilise the government.
“Despite Muhyiddin becoming the prime minister and forming a government through the back door, we were prepared to compromise for the benefit and welfare of the people.
“But he was vain and rejected all that the opposition offered,” they said.
The statement was jointly signed by, among others, Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal, MUDA chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau and Baru Bian of PSB.
The leaders said Muhyiddin had from day one blatantly abused the rule of law to hold on to power.
They claimed the Bersatu president’s pride in remaining in power through the “buying” of MPs and assemblymen has led to the collapse of the state governments in Sabah, Kedah, Perak and Johor.
“We are extremely disgusted with the hypocrisy shown by Muhyiddin in the special announcement just now, moreover when he attempted to buy support through the Anti-Hopping Law when in reality his government was formed by MPs who had crossed over after accepting offers of rewards.”
The opposition MPs also pointed out that it was not Muhyiddin’s responsibility to decide who had the majority support from the MPs before deciding to step down.
“We demand Muhyiddin to resign immediately respectfully and allow the democratic process to resume.
“Any suggestion of reform that he ‘presented’ can be brought up in Parliament by a new prime minister who has the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat and not by a backdoor PM.” - FMT
