Say Sorry For Slander Demands Man Nabbed For Insulting Kedah Mb
Kuala Muda police chief Adzli Abu Shah has been accused of defamation.PETALING JAYA: A man arrested for allegedly insulting the Kedah menteri besar has accused the Kuala Muda district police chief of slandering him in a press statement.
He is now demanding that the police chief apologise and retract his allegations.
Roslei Kamisan is also demanding RM100,000 in damages.
Kuala Muda police chief Adzli Abu Shah had, in a statement issued on Aug 9, said that Roslei, also known as “Tok Abah”, had a past criminal record and was currently being investigated for criminal intimidation.
Roslei’s lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, said that the said claim was defamatory and false.
Ramkarpal also said the police had intentionally and maliciously released the statement, knowing it would be read by the public and that this would irreversibly damage Roslei’s reputation.
“This has led to the perception that my client is a criminal and as one who does not obey the law.
“It also gives the impression that there is a tendency to criminally intimidate others and that he is a bad person,” the letter of demand read.
Ramkarpal said Adzli had 14 days to comply with the demands, failing which legal action would be initiated.
Roslei was nabbed on Monday, in Lenggong, Negeri Sembilan, following a complaint lodged by the Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s media officer.
According to Adzli, the complainant had claimed the man had insulted Sanusi by saying he was “displaying his stupidity for all to see” by making remarks on the Covid-19 dead, among others.
Sanusi had, at a press conference, said there were enough containers in the state to store the remains of those who died from Covid-19 before joking that those who wanted to enter to “give your names”.
This led to a barrage of criticisms, including by Roslei, who berated Sanusi on Facebook. - FMT
