Former Air Kelantan Head Charged With Bribery

Former Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) general manager Wan Mohd Zamri Wan Ismail was charged in the Kota Bharu Sessions Court with accepting a bribe worth RM10,000.
The accused pleaded not guilty as soon as the charge was read out before judge Zaman Mohd Noor by an interpreter.
The 61-year-old was charged with accepting RM10,000 for himself from Ng Tze Wei, 44, through a cheque dated Jan 21, 2015, at Maybank Kota Bharu on Jan 22 that year.
The money was allegedly credited to the accused’s account as a means to push for Zog Technology Sdn Bhd to be appointed as a subcontractor to design, build, complete, test run, commission mechanical works, as well as works related to the design and construction of the Merbau Chondong Water Supply Scheme Phase II, Package 1, in Machang, Kelantan.
The charge was made in accordance with Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act - which can be punished under Section 24(1) of the same act.
The case was handled by MACC deputy public prosecutor Mariah Omar, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Adha Amir Yassir Amri.
Earlier, Mariah had sought bail of RM15,000, the handing over of the accused’s passport and instructions to report himself to the MACC or the police every month until the case is resolved.
Adha then asked the court to offer a lower bail amount, with consideration that his client is unemployed and is supporting two children who were still studying at university and seven grandchildren who lived together.
Additionally, he noted that Wan Zamri suffers from chronic diseases including kidney complications and heart problems.
The judge granted the accused RM7,000 bail with a surety, ordered his passport to be handed over to the court and for the accused to report himself to the MACC office or a nearby police station monthly.
The judge also set Sept 28 for case management and document submission.
Previously, Wan Zamri was remanded for seven days from July 9 to 15, 2021, to assist in the investigation of a corruption case involving a project worth more than RM27 million. - Mkini
