Meeting With Pn Already Held Says Ismail

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob visiting the Pahang pavilion at the Maha agri-horticultural exhibition in Serdang today. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today he had already had a meeting with representatives of Perikatan Nasional (PN) two weeks ago.
He said the meeting took place during the final week of the Dewan Rakyat’s session and was held at Parliament house. PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and PN treasurer Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar were present.
“Bersatu presented their views and I presented mine. So, that’s about it,” he said, according to Bernama after he visited the Pahang pavilion at the Malaysia agri-horticultural exhibition (Maha) in Serdang here today.
Ismail said the meeting had been announced when he opened Maha on Aug 6, and need not be raised again.

PN had said earlier that it was disappointed that a scheduled meeting with Ismail was cancelled.
The meeting was to discuss terms of an agreement Ismail had signed with PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin before taking office as prime minister in August last year.
Among them was the appointment of a deputy prime minister from Bersatu.
Ismail said the government was currently more focused on resolving the people’s issues and restoring the country’s economy.
“People want to hear more about this (resolving people’s issues). Let us focus on the people’s issues. That is more important.
“For example, the prices of goods that are said to have increased and so on.
Study on chicken export ban
“Due to the intervention by the government the price of chicken has dropped. Even though we set a ceiling price of RM9.40 per kg, it is now being sold at RM7.50 and in some places, even RM7.”
He said the government was looking into an application by poultry breeders to lift the ban on export of chicken.
“We will discuss it. If we feel exports can be allowed without affecting local supplies, maybe we can consider reviewing it. We fear that by allowing 3.6 million birds to be exported a month, domestic supply will be affected and prices will rise because demand exceeds supply.”
Ismail said the government was determined to protect the interests of the people. He cited efforts to curb price increases for cooking oil. “Through the special task force on managing inflation, we have succeeded in lowering the price of cooking oil.
“We were also informed by the works ministry that the price of iron had also dropped,” he said. - FMT
