(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional divisions have been urged to embrace the use of “big data” for election analyses in order to better forecast its election performance at the coming general election.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition must also adapt to the use of social media, with speedy responses to counter opposition attacks.
He said the opposition parties were trying to turn the littoral combat ships controversy into another 1MDB scandal as they did in 2018.
He urged BN divisions to develop their own data banks and run proper data analysis as they could provide the best data compared to the ones provided by research firms.

At the previous general election in 2018, only one of 13 market intelligence firms had made an accurate forecast of BN’s chances while the others predicted a big BN victory.
“Only one firm said that BN will win only 82 seats and that we are going to lose six states. Nobody wanted to believe the research done by the firm. But they were right. We won 79 seats although they predicted we would win 82. We lost six states but not Perlis.”
Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Kedah and Sabah were won by Pakatan Harapan and Warisan in 2018.
Zahid also urged BN to adapt to the use of social media for its own survival. “Change so that we won’t fall,” he said.
He praised BN’s communications teams for quick action against opposition attempts to highlight misappropriation in the warship contract.
The LCS project, to build six frigates for the navy, has come under parliamentary criticism over its cost and project delays despite the expenditure of RM6 billion so far.
The first ship was launched in 2017 and was due to be delivered to the navy in 2019 with the rest in stages at six-month intervals. However, none of the ships have been completed or delivered. - FMT
