Foreigner Charged With Molesting Teenager In Pulau Gaya
- Bernama pixKOTA KINABALU: A foreigner today claimed trial to two charges at the Magistrate's court, here, of molesting a teenage girl and trespassing into a house where she stayed.
On the first count, Sulaiman Asoi, 21, who was brought before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, was accused of outraging the modesty of the victim aged 14 at a house in Pulau Gaya at 5.55am on May 14.
The charge was under Section 354 of the Penal Code and carries a jail term of up to 10 years with a fine or whipping or any two of the said punishments, upon conviction.
On the second charge, the accused was brought before magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles for allegedly breaking into a house at the same time and place.
The offence under Section 448 of the Penal Code is punishable by a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The magistrates fixed June 21 and 26 respectively for case management and no bail was offered to the accused at both courts as he has no proper identification.
Meanwhile, an unemployed man was jailed eight years by the Sessions Court here for robbing a woman of her smartphone, last month.
Misly Robin, 39, pleaded guilty before judge Azreena Aziz to a charge under Section 392 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and also liable to a fine or whipping, upon conviction.
The accused was arrested for robbing an IMM13 holder, Karsum Musa of her handphone along the road near the Imago Shopping Mall here on April 22.
The facts of the case stated that the accused was arrested on May 11 and led police to where he kept the smartphone.
The court ordered the unrepresented accused to serve his jail term from the date of his arrest. - NST
