Death Of Bullied Teenager Witness Identifies 3 More Murder Suspects
A witness in the murder case of T Nhaveen today identified three more individuals who were allegedly involved in the teenager's killing four years ago.
According to activist Arun Dorasamy, the witness - T Previin - was called to the Jelutong police station in Penang where the suspects were held by police.
The three men aged between 23 and 27 were arrested separately on Saturday and Monday, to facilitate investigation into the June 2017 murder, he said.
"Previin identified three individuals today during an identification parade at the police station.
"The whole process including recording of further statements from the witness took about one hour and a half," Arun said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
Arun is a part of a group called the Nhaveen Action League which seeks justice for the victim who died aged 17.
Nhaveen was reportedly attacked by five teenagers who pummeled him with their helmets. He was found in a field near his house at Jalan Kaki Bukit in Bukit Gelugor, George Town, Penang.
He was placed on life support upon admission to the Penang Hospital. The teenager died at 6pm on June 15, 2017, while receiving treatment.
Previin was assaulted alongside Nhaveen during the June 9 incident but managed to escape with serious injuries to his face.
Following the incident, police have hauled up five individuals to facilitate investigations.
Four of them, all former schoolmates of the deceased, are now facing murder charges at the Penang High Court.
Meanwhile, on a death threat that Previin received recently, Arun said the police suggested for Previin to enrol in the government's witness protection programme.
However, according to the activist, they believe that should only be a last resort.
"Witness protection should be used only as the last resort, not as the first option.
"We shouldn't punish the victim. Because enrolling in the programme, one would have to change his identity. It is almost like buang negeri, he has to leave behind his family and such," he said.
However, according to Arun, the option is still open and should Previin feel that his life is at risk, they can make a request for the programme. - Mkini
