Flag Blunder Akmal Threatens Protest If No Charges By Wednesday
If the hardware store owner who hung the Jalur Gemilang upside down is not hauled to court within two days, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said he will "educate" the man.
"If there are no charges on this individual by Wednesday, then god willing on Thursday I will go and we will give a class to educate this ‘ah pek’ on how to properly hoist the flag," he said in a video on Facebook.
It is unclear whether Akmal's demonstration on how to put up the national flag will coincide with the rally that Umno Youth planned.
The Merlimau assemblyperson said he will give prosecutors two days to carry out the legal process, but cautioned against sweeping the matter under the rug.
He also urged prosecutors to charge businessperson Feng Jin Zhen with a more serious section of the relevant laws so that he faces a heavier punishment.
Akmal had initially postponed his "class" after Feng’s arrest yesterday.
The police said they would be submitting their investigation paper to prosecutors today with recommendations for charges to be filed.
The case was investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
Akmal a ‘bully’?
Yesterday, Lawyers for Liberty director Zaid Malek criticised Akmal for “bullying, vigilantism and a public call for mob action.”
He invited Akmal to debate the issue instead, rather than “harassing, insulting and intimidating ordinary Malaysians”.
He also said that Akmal’s planned visit, together with “his friends”, was unacceptable, dangerous and racially divisive.

Lawyers for Liberty director Zaid MalekThe latest flag blunder went viral on social media two days ago after a Facebook account under the name Nazirul Hafiz posted a 20-second video, in which a man is seen carrying the flag upside down on a pole, while another man records him.
Feng later explained that he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the national flag and did not notice that the flag was upside down. - Mkini
