Akmal To Visit Teach Ah Pek Penang Store Owner To Hang Flag Properly
In yet another episode involving a flag gaffe, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh now plans to visit and teach the owner of a hardware store in Penang on how to properly put up a Jalur Gemilang.
This followed the owner Feng Jin Zhen’s explanation yesterday, claiming he had held the national flag upside down by mistake when preparing to hang it on an iron pole.
In a Facebook post, Akmal, who appeared to be dissatisfied with the response, said he would go to the store in Kepala Batas at noon tomorrow (Monday) and invited all his friends to join.
“I will go there this Monday, and I want to invite all my friends from all over Malaysia, let’s go to this ‘Ah Pek’ store at noon.
ADS“(Everyone joining) must bring a national flag so we can teach these two ‘Ah Pek’ how to properly install a national flag.
“So, to the two ‘Ah Pek’, you wait for us. We will go to you to teach you how to put up a Malaysian flag,” he said.
“Ah Pek” is a colloquial term widely used in Malaysia to refer to elderly Chinese men.
Another blunder
The latest flag blunder went viral on social media yesterday after a Facebook account under the name Nazirul Hafiz posted a 20-second video, in which a man is seen carrying the flag upside down on a pole, while another man records him.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal SalehIt was then shared by Akmal, who lambasted the individuals, calling them “traitors” to the country and urged the government to take action against them.
The Merlimau assemblyperson also sarcastically asked whether the person involved is also disabled, in an apparent swipe at DAP leaders who claimed that the person behind a similar incident at a vernacular school in Negeri Sembilan had intellectual disability.
Later in the day, Chinese-language daily Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported that Feng explained that he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the national flag and did not notice that the flag was upside down.
According to Bernama, police have launched an investigation into the incident under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. - Mkini
