Explain Rm854m Weapons Purchase Mp Tells Tengku Zafrul
Fahmi Fadzil said claims made about a RM854 million weapons deal by the government were ‘alarming’.PETALING JAYA: PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil has urged finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz to respond to allegations regarding the approval for the purchase of nearly RM1 billion worth of heavy artillery through direct negotiations.
“Claims that a RM854 million deal was made through direct negotiations, while we are exposing multiple issues regarding the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal (which was also directly negotiated), is alarming,” he said in a post on his Facebook page.
The Lembah Pantai MP was responding to a Facebook post yesterday by political observer and writer Zaharin Mohd Yasin who uploaded an image of what seems to be a letter from the finance ministry to the defence ministry regarding the purchase.
Fahmi added that it was of great concern if the letter was authentic and the issues raised by Zaharin regarding the purchase were indeed true.

“As an MP I am extremely worried. Tengku Zafrul must explain himself,” he said.
This follows the scandal surrounding the RM9 billion contract to Boustead Naval Shipyard Sdn Bhd for six LCS as part of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s fleet renewal plan.
Several investigation papers have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers with recommendations to charge several people linked to the project.
The scandal has since made headlines with calls for accountability and demand for answers over the delays in the delivery of the LCS and the many other questions surrounding the project. - FMT
