Education Ministry Completes Safety Audits At Over 700 Schools
The Education Ministry has completed safety audits at more than 700 schools nationwide so far, its minister Fadhlina Sidek said.
She said the auditing process is ongoing, with full reports expected within the next one to two months.
“This is very important for us to assess the ministry’s commitment to ensuring schools receive special attention, particularly regarding safety.
“The audit will certainly provide us with approaches and priorities on what needs to be improved from time to time, especially in terms of the well-being and safety of our schools,” she told reporters after launching the Anti-Bullying Campaign at Yayasan Aman, Penanti, today.
She said that school safety is considered in the broader context of student welfare, and the Education Ministry has included proposals under the Safe School framework in the 2026 Budget presentation.
“Within this framework, we have requested consideration for, among other things, a substantial increase in the number of counselling teachers and the expansion of mental health support programmes in schools. We hope that our Safe School framework will receive attention in the upcoming budget,” she said.
Earlier reports stated that the Education Ministry directed the Chief School Inspectorate to deploy all members to carry out school safety audits, with weekly reports submitted as part of the initiative to strengthen safety in schools and hostels.
On the recent incident in Seremban, where a Year Four male student was found unconscious in a school restroom and later died, Fadhlina said the ministry is still awaiting the police investigation.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we have fully cooperated with the police in this matter,” she said.
Last Wednesday, a 10-year-old Year Four student was found unconscious in a school toilet and later confirmed dead.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said the report was received at 1.19pm while the student was receiving initial treatment at a private medical centre.
