Dr M Still In Ijn Relays Ramadan Wishes To Muslims
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still undergoing treatment for an infection at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
The update was given in the nonagenarian’s official Facebook page yesterday, in wishing Muslims Happy Ramadan.
“I would like to thank everyone who prayed for my health, as well as that of my wife (Dr Siti) Hasmah (Mohamad Ali), and our happiness.
“I’m still undergoing treatment at IJN for the infection I have been suffering from since last January,” said the 98-year-old.
“Thank God, my health is better now, thanks to all your prayers and the hard work of the doctors, nurses, and staff of IJN,” he added.
According to Mahathir further, he is currently allowed by specialist doctors in IJN to take “home leave”, which refers to short trips home, but is still required to spend every night at the centre.
He expressed hope that he would fully recover and be allowed to return home soon.
On Feb 20, an aide to Mahathir refuted rumours that the latter is critically ill and shared photos of him reading a newspaper and doing some writing.
Mahathir was admitted to IJN on Jan 26 due to an infection and this led to the hearing of his defamation suit against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Feb 13 to be adjourned to July 19.
The suit is over the alleged defamatory statements about the “kutty” issue.
