Dap Youth Lauds Pas Counterpart For Cleverly Riding Flag Issue
DAP Youth “congratulated” its PAS counterpart for riding on an inverted national flag controversy behind the back of its party’s leadership.
DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong pointed out that PAS Youth had previously formed a team to monitor any improper displays of the Jalur Gemilang - despite claims of being told to stay away from the matter.
Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party had firmly advised its youth wing not to get involved in an incident where a businessperson in Kepala Batas, Penang, hoisted the national flag upside down on Aug 9.
However, later that day, it was reported that Perak PAS Youth had set up a special team to monitor any instances of the national flag being displayed upside down during Merdeka celebrations.
ADSAs such, Woo (above) snidely suggested that Takiyuddin had been kept in the dark over PAS Youth’s activities, saying: “Perhaps the Kota Bharu MP didn’t read the news that PAS Youth had already set up a ‘monitoring team’ for inverted flags a week ago.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan“This means that PAS Youth has long been riding on the issue without (Takiyuddin’s) knowledge,” the Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson asserted in a statement today.
He also sarcastically congratulated PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, saying that the latter has managed to successfully exploit the issue by seemingly backing “gangster actions” before a rally organised by Umno Youth even took place.
“(This is) despite his absence, along with other PAS members, on the day itself. A clever move to ride on this issue while sidestepping it,” Woo said.
‘State your stance’
Woo also called on PAS to state its stance regarding calls for action against Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s “gangster-like” behaviour.
“Does PAS disagree with the move to lodge a police report against gangster-like political behaviour?
“Does PAS agree with the gangster actions of storming small traders’ shops, which resulted in all shops in the area being forced to close?” he questioned.
Woo further urged all politicians to play their role in building bridges of unity, and warned against turning ordinary schools and small traders into enemies.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh led the recent rally in Kepala BatasOn Aug 14, Akmal led a gathering outside the hardware shop in Kepala Batas after its owner, Pang Chin Tian, came under investigation for flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down.
Pang had claimed that he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the national flag and did not notice that it was upside down.
Pang has since been investigated and arrested by the police, while Akmal is also being probed over the rally. - Mkini
