Dap Wants Ge16 Held With Johor Malacca Sarawak Polls

DAP said it prefers for Parliament to be dissolved at the same time as the state legislative assemblies of Johor, Malacca, and Sarawak.
In his speech at the 2025 Johor DAP convention opening ceremony this morning, party secretary-general Anthony Loke explained that unified polls will cut costs, especially for the Sarawak election.
“This is an important decision that needs to be made by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, but I will certainly give the party’s views to him, that we are inclined to have simultaneous elections,” he said.
The Malacca state assembly will be automatically dissolved in December next year. Sarawak’s state election is due in February 2027, with Johor following soon after in April.
The 16th general election, on the other hand, must be held by February 2028.
As for the cost of elections, the Election Commission estimated that the six-state polls in 2023 cost RM420 million.
The upcoming Sabah election is expected to cost RM116.8 million.
‘Nothing to worry about’
Loke said Pakatan Harapan will maintain its principle of incumbency, adding that there will be talks with Anwar to ensure the party’s continued success.
He expressed confidence in DAP’s ability to capture seats in the coming elections, saying there was nothing to worry about if the spirit of members remains high.
Loke said the party must at least maintain its number of seats In Johor - five parliamentary seats and 10 state seats.
“Johor is a very unique state because at the federal level, we are working with BN. At the state level, although we are called a balancer, this means that we are not part of the government in Johor.
“This cooperation or order will continue until the election,” he added.
Besides that, Loke spoke on Johor DAP’s role in the upcoming Sabah election.
“I hope (Johor DAP chief) Teo Nie Ching will mobilise more Johor DAP members to go and help Sabah DAP to face the state election at the end of this month,” he said.
Sabah will head to the polls on Nov 29, with early voting set for the 25th. - Mkini
