Dap And Pkr S Missing Indian Leaders In Ayer Kuning By Election A Cause For Concern

Editor’s Note: The Ayer Kuning by-election kicks off today (April 24) by featuring a three-cornered fight involving Barisan Nasional (BN)-UMNO’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional (PN)-PAS’s Abdul Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) K.S. Bawani.
WITH the Ayer Kuning by-election being currently underway, it has to be pointed out that the notable absence of key Indian leaders from DAP and PKR – including Gobind Singh, M. Kulasegaran, R. Ramanan and K. Saraswathy – in the campaign for their Pakatan Harapan (PH) ally, Barisan Nasional (BN), is deeply concerning.
The silence from these prominent figures has puzzled local observers given the reasons for their non-appearance remain unclear.
This situation sadly highlights the enduring influence of race and party affiliation in our political landscape.


One must wonder if the Indian Minister and Deputy Ministers from DAP and PKR are simply unknown to the voters of Perak, especially in Ayer Kuning.
This raises serious doubts about the sincerity of DAP and PKR’s commitment to supporting BN’s candidate, Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir.
Perhaps these DAP and PKR Indian leaders are taking for granted that their moral support makes no difference given UMNO’s election machinery is already strong enough or that Ayer Kuning will be a walk in the park for the BN candidate,
Or could it be that these key Indian leaders within DAP and PKR have failed to establish meaningful connections with the grassroots community, particularly in rural constituencies?
