Critic Tears Into Anwar S Ron95 Claim Says Economic Boast Full Of Inaccuracies

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared that the government’s long-standing pledge to reduce petrol prices has finally been fulfilled, crediting improved governance and fiscal reforms.
Speaking at a PKR gathering in Sandakan, Anwar said Malaysians with valid driving licences will now enjoy up to 300 litres of RON95 petrol monthly at RM1.99 per litre, a move he described as proof that “Malaysia can truly be a wealthy nation, but only if we have integrity and honesty.”
Anwar credited the petrol price cut to good governance and thanked the finance ministry team and his colleagues for fulfilling their responsibilities effectively.
However, the announcement drew fire from Najib Razak ally and outspoken critic Eric SeeTo, also known as Lim Sian See, who accused Anwar of manipulating the numbers.
“There are several inaccuracies in PMX’s statement today,” Eric wrote on X.
“He said PH’s promise has been fulfilled. But PH promised fuel at RM1.50 within 24 hours, not a mere 6 sen cut to RM1.99 after 30 months,” he added, further questioning Anwar’s claim that the lower fuel price was a result of sound financial management.
“In reality, debt hasn’t gone down but increased by RM222.4 bil in just the first 2½ years of Madani. This year alone, debt is set to rise another RM80 bil three times faster than under Najib,” he said.
Eric further noted that the national debt-to-GDP ratio has climbed from 60.3% to 66.5%, while government spending has ballooned to RM421 bil.
“So is it really the people who are ‘cleaning up’ leakages, by paying more taxes and higher utility bills?” he asked. — Focus Malaysia
