Mahathir Obsessed With Criticising Anwar Says Pkr Mp

A PKR lawmaker has accused Dr Mahathir Mohamad of being fixated on faulting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim - his latest “unreasonable criticism” concerning the invitation extended to United States President Donald Trump to attend next month’s Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
Sungai Petani MP Taufiq Johari said Mahathir should know that the invitation is not carried out on behalf of Malaysia as a nation, but in its capacity as chair of the Asean grouping.
He added that the summit would give the prime minister a valuable opportunity to convey Malaysia’s sentiments on the Gaza genocide directly to Trump.
Taufiq (above) noted that Anwar has consistently stood by the Palestinian cause, having previously expressed these views to then US president Joseph Biden during the Apec summit in November 2023.
ADS“We are all united in opposing the atrocities committed by Israel, but we also have to engage the US.
“Mahathir himself should know that this is a critical part of diplomatic engagement. At the same time as we discuss Israel’s injustice and oppression, there are also other matters which directly involve Trump and the members of Asean.
“Most telling of this is the trade tariffs that his administration imposed earlier this year and are still part of crucial negotiations that will impact the economy of the region,” he added.
Taufiq urged the former premier to examine the issue from all angles instead of criticising every step the government takes.
Anwar’s rebuke
Earlier, Anwar rebuked critics questioning the invitation extended to Trump to attend the Asean Summit.
He stressed that Malaysia will use the diplomatic platform to continue voicing concerns over Palestine, including the atrocities in Gaza.
The prime minister stated that Malaysia must be strategic in negotiations, maintaining a firm stance in defending truth and justice while pursuing diplomacy with wisdom.
In a video message posted on social media, Mahathir called on Anwar to revoke the invitation to Trump because of the US’ continued support for Israel. - Mkini
