Cameron Highlands Folk Invited To Share Views On Proposed Rm1 5b Project

Cameron Highlands residents have been invited to participate in a social impact survey for a proposed commercial development that is the size of 28 football fields.
Located in Kea Farm, Brinchang, the proposed project site spans 20 hectares.
With a reported gross development value of RM1.5 billion, the plan is to build multiple serviced apartments, “villas” and shops.
Earlier this week, the Cameron Highlands District Council (MDCH) posted a link on its Facebook page and encouraged local residents to participate in the survey.
The survey, available in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin, is part of the social impact assessment (SIA) process for the proposed project.
“Your views, suggestions and objections via the feedback platform are very important in deliberating and determining the direction of the proposed development as well as its impact on the local community,” it said.

In Mar 2021, MDCH entered into a joint venture with Casa Inspirasi Sdn Bhd for the proposed project.
Casa Inspirasi is a subsidiary of listed developer LBS Bina Group Berhad.
Financial daily The Edge previously reported that LBS would be paying a total of RM120 million for the land - RM11 million cash and RM109 million in development cost.
The project is expected to take up to 15 years.

Petition against project
Local NGO Regional Environmental Awareness Cameron Highlands (Reach) is against the proposed development on the grounds that it poses a landslide risk as the site is too steep.
Another reason is that the site is part of the Ulu Bertam forest reserve and home to black panthers, Malayan Civets, Asian golden cats and serows.
Furthermore, the environmental rights group said the site was part of a water catchment area for the Brinchang water plant.
Reach previously launched an online petition to campaign against the proposed project.
Tanah Rata assemblyperson Chiong Yoke Kong also previously raised questions about the proposed project, stressing that Cameron Highlands was an environmentally sensitive area that was prone to floods and landslides. - Mkini
