Bersatu’s head of security said he was pulled from behind and fell while trying to stop two members who were disrupting party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech.PETALING JAYA: Police have launched investigations into a commotion on Saturday night at Bersatu’s annual general assembly in Shah Alam
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the party’s head of security filed a police report at 12.18am on what happened.
“He said he was on duty when the president was making his keynote speech and saw two men, both Bersatu members, standing up and shouting, disrupting the president.
“The complainant approached one of the men to calm him down but was pulled from behind, causing him to fall and triggering a commotion in the hall,” Iqbal said in a statement today.
Security personnel intervened and the two men were escorted out. “No one was injured, and no property was damaged,” he said.
It was earlier reported that a Bersatu delegate was called to the Shah Alam police headquarters to give his statement. A source told FMT that one report was lodged last night and another today.
At a press conference this afternoon, Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid said a separate complaint had been submitted to the party’s disciplinary board, calling for action against delegates involved in the incident.
The commotion broke out after party president Muhyiddin Yassin revealed in his keynote speech yesterday that some quarters had been collecting signatures to oust him.
A small group of delegates then called for Muhyiddin to step down, while the majority of the delegates broke into chants of “Hidup Tan Sri” in support of Muhyiddin. - FMT
