Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh remains unapologetically defiant, buoyed by the backing of party deputy president Mohamad Hasan in the face of DAP’s relentless onslaught.
In a Facebook post, Akmal thanked Mohamad while firing back at DAP Youth, his fiercest critic.
This came after DAP Youth urged Mohamad - better known as Tok Mat - to apply his call for rationality on Akmal, insisting that the Umno number two should “face reality” and stop defending a “bad apple”.
Seizing on Mohamad’s support, Akmal turned the jibe around, declaring that DAP Youth was far worse.
ADS“Because a bad apple is better than poison! Thank you, Tok Mat!” he shot back.
Umno deputy president Mohamad HasanIn an earlier post, where he also expressed gratitude to the deputy president, Akmal stressed that “we will never be afraid of them”.
Yesterday, Mohamad urged DAP to rein in its Youth wing and “return to rational thinking,” cautioning against rash actions that could complicate the unity government’s work.
His remarks followed calls by several DAP Youth state chapters to end the party’s political cooperation with Akmal.
Mohamad also defended Akmal’s recent rally in Kepala Batas, Penang, over an inverted national flag blunder.
He described it as a “peaceful mission” and said it was “fortunate” that nothing untoward occurred after Akmal was “provoked”.
Political gangster or patriot?
However, DAP Youth reminded Mohamad of his youth chief’s “thuggish behaviour” and past transgressions.
Previously, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi also praised Akmal as a patriot for defending the proper use of the flag.
The recent gathering in Kepala BatasPuad questioned why those defending the national flag were being branded as “political gangsters”.
“Should we just stay silent? It’s not as if Akmal and Umno Youth are planning a rampage. They only want to assemble peacefully,” he argued.
Akmal had led a gathering outside a hardware shop in Kepala Batas after its owner came under investigation for flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down. - Mkini
