Amanah Veep Pas Obsessed With Toppling Anwar As Kelantan Spirals
Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar has accused PAS of prioritising efforts to unseat Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over addressing pressing issues in Kelantan, including drug abuse, smuggling, and rising social problems.
ADSThe former PAS leader, in a statement today, claimed the Islamist party has become more invested in “street strategies and TikTok propaganda” over governance.
“The people are disappointed by PAS’ obsession with toppling Anwar, as if it were a fardu ain (religious obligation) more important than fighting drugs, tackling poverty, or safeguarding public morality.
“While Kelantan is increasingly besieged by drug problems, smuggling routes, and now even a gay party busted by police, PAS leaders seem more focused on organising protests - perhaps even franchising them,” he claimed.

PAS Youth and other party leaders are expected to be among organisers of the July 26 “Turun Anwar” rally at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur, with authorities pledging to facilitate the participation of an estimated 10,000 people.
‘Drugs, smuggling, and gay parties’
Further, Mahfuz also took aim at what he described as Kelantan’s deteriorating conditions under PAS rule.
“The so-called Veranda of Mecca is now plagued by drugs from Tumpat to Tanah Merah, a hotspot for border smuggling, and recently, rocked by a police raid on a gay party,” said the former PAS leader.
The purported “gay party”, which has been disputed, was based on police’s accounts of their raid on a Health Ministry-backed HIV awareness and outreach event in Kota Bharu last month.

“Where is this so-called Islamic state? Where is the ‘Islam leads’ slogan?
“Where is the government that supposedly does better than DAP or Pakatan Harapan?” asked the former Pokok Sena MP.
The News Straits Times quoted Kelantan state Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairperson Hilmi Abdullah as saying today that while LGBTQ+ individuals would continue to exist globally, Kelantan's unique social environment has helped contain the spread of such activities.
”So long as the world has not ended, the LGBTQ+ community will continue to exist.
ADS”However, in Kelantan, things are more contained because our society prioritises religious teachings, cultural norms, and strong community bonds,” the Guchil assemblyperson said.
‘A party of slogans, not solutions’
He also accused the Kelantan government of being heavy on religious rhetoric but light on substance.
“PAS spends more time giving sermons than crafting policies, more time praying than taking action,” said Mahfuz.
Calling PAS a “private limited company with an Islamic label”, Mahfuz alleged that the party has failed to produce any meaningful results in terms of social policy or job creation.
“They can’t develop their own state, but want to teach the nation how to choose a prime minister,” he said.

He further contrasted PAS’ approach with what he described as Amanah’s belief in “Islam Rahmah” - a compassionate Islam.
“Islam should not just be paraded on signboards but translated into clean governance, comprehensive social policies, character-building education, and hopeful, action-oriented administration,” he said.
Mahfuz concluded by urging an end to “hate politics and hypocrisy”.
“If PAS still can’t manage its own state, what qualifies them to govern the country or lead a campaign to bring down Anwar Ibrahim?” he asked.
Yesterday, Anwar affirmed that he will not resign as demanded by certain quarters, as long as he has not committed any wrongdoing or abused his power. -Mkini
