Rafizi Slams Pas Over Turun Anwar Ultimatum To Back Rci
Rafizi Ramli has warned PAS not to repeat the grave error it made during the 1MDB scandal, this time over the call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the judiciary.
ADSThe Pandan MP was responding to PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who said the party would only support the proposed RCI if Rafizi joined a protest rally demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation, dubbed “Turun Anwar”.
Rafizi dismissed the conditional support as nothing more than opportunism.
“I only ask one thing - that PAS does not repeat the mistake they made during the 1MDB scandal.
“While we struggled to expose wrongdoing, they simply acted as auditors and declared their satisfaction,” he added in a social media post.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan ManRafizi said he and eight PKR MPs, who called for the RCI, have officially begun sending letters to all MPs, including those from the opposition.
“From there, we’ll see who supports and who doesn’t.
“It’s not my place to judge who is sincere in defending the independence of the judiciary, just as PAS continues to judge me as insincere merely because I don’t attend their rally,” he added.
Rafizi noted that PAS often champions the idea of mature politics, which he said should involve presenting views on public interest matters objectively.
“If our views happen to align, it doesn’t mean we share the same political platform.
“What comes from the opposition may be seen as criticism. From the government, it’s viewed as constructive feedback. Both have a role to play,” he added.
Call for RCI
On Monday, Rafizi and the eight PKR lawmakers urged the formation of the RCI and the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on institutional reforms to investigate alleged judicial interference.

Rafizi Ramli and six MPs during a press conference to call for RCI on MondayADSThey called for the RCI to probe claims that the government ignored Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) recommendations before Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat’s retirement, including nominations for chief justice and Court of Appeal president.
They also highlighted concerns that the JAC was summoned last Friday without the mandatory 10-day notice to propose new candidates.
Rafizi likened the allegations to the VK Lingam scandal, where a 2002 phone recording revealed efforts to influence judicial appointments.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers subsequently downplayed the concerns raised by the PKR lawmakers and described the comparison with the VK Lingam scandal as unwarranted. - FMT
