(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: The food security crisis needs to be addressed immediately, especially as the world is facing various challenges at the moment, says Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The King said a long-term plan must be drawn up to strengthen food security and ensure the cost of living is at a reasonable level.
“I hope the government and leaders at all levels address the many problems that people are facing, including the high cost of living and the increase in the price of food.
“My advice is, don’t let any dispute get in the way when the country is faced with food security problems and a rise in the cost of living. We should all focus on helping the people.
“An attitude such as ‘bila sudah merah, kapur salahkan kunyit dan kunyit salahkan kapur’ (blaming each other when anything goes wrong) will not help the people facing various challenges,” he said at the investiture ceremony of federal awards and honours held in conjunction with his official birthday celebration at Istana Negara here today.
The King also advised Malaysians to be frugal and spend wisely.
He praised the various initiatives by the government to strengthen social protection and wipe out hardcore poverty.
The King was also hopeful that such programmes can achieve the target of eliminating hardcore poverty by 2025. - FMT
