Threats To Resign Only Disrupt The Party Says Pkr S Zaliha
(FMT) – The PKR election panel chief urges leaders to think rationally instead of being led by their emotions ahead of the central leadership polls.
PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa has urged fellow party leaders to think rationally instead of being led by their emotions, ahead of the central leadership polls and national congress this month.
Commenting on PKR division committee members threatening to quit following the divisional elections last month, Zaliha said leaders in the party must not make such hasty or emotional decisions that may spread disunity.
She added that threatening to resign only disrupted efforts to bolster the party and could also affect the running of the congress from May 21 to 24.
“Think before taking any action. The most important thing after this election is for us to unite and close ranks for the sake of the party’s strength and continue to fight for the agenda of developing the country,” she said, according to Bernama.
Earlier, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said some PKR division committee members had threatened to resign because they disagreed with or disliked the elected division head.
Fifteen Masjid Tanah PKR office bearers had also quit their posts but retracted their resignations today, saying they will continue to serve in their elected roles.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil then said disciplinary action may be taken against those who threaten to resign or attempt to disrupt the running of the party’s congress.
Zaliha said the contest between Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar for the PKR deputy presidency reflected the mature and healthy culture of democracy in the party.
She added that there was “no issue with anyone stepping forward to contest” for a post.
“Each of them has their own strength, talent and track record. This should be harnessed for the party’s benefit, particularly to strengthen PKR’s position and secure victory in the next general election,” she said.
Rafizi previously slammed Zaliha over her handling of the party’s divisional elections, which had resulted in many of his allies losing their contest. He also accused her of ignoring hundreds of objections filed by members.
