Akmal To Anwar We Are Not Obsessed With Najib Just Want Fair Treatment
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh today hits back at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for criticising those he deemed having "an obsession" with the 1MDB scandal and former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
ADS"This is not an obsession with Najib, dear prime minister, but we are defending his right to serve (the remainder of his jail sentence) under house arrest, as what the former Agong had granted him.
"We have never held street protests to question court decisions like what your supporters did once upon a time. We only want Najib to get his rights.
"When the court decided on his case, we accepted the decision. But when Najib was granted house arrest by the king, everyone should accept this too," Akmal said in a statement on Facebook.
He was responding to a Malaysiakini story based on Anwar's exclusive interview with Al-Jazeera’s "101 East".

The prime minister had questioned an apparent "obsession" held over the 1MDB scandal and Najib, who is in prison, while there are still many other corruption-related cases amounting to billions lost.
"I think it’s a blatant, nasty trick by some of these crooks who continue to highlight Najib over and over again so that their case is ignored,” Anwar reportedly said.
‘Don’t worry’
Adding further, Akmal said he and other Najib supporters are similar to those who stood by Anwar when the latter was sacked from the government and jailed.
"Just like your supporters who believed that you deserve a fair trial, we also feel the same in Najib's case.
"There is no trick, we just want Najib to be given his rights.
"As much as you have contributed to the country, so does Najib, whose contributions can never be denied.
"So, do not worry, PMX," he said.

On Jan 29 last year, the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah issued a royal addendum, which supposedly commuted Najib’s prison sentence to house arrest.
This was in addition to the Pardons Board’s decision, which reduced the former prime minister’s 12-year sentence and RM210 million fine to six years and RM50 million.
The sentence is in relation to the RM42 million SRC International abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering case. - Mkini
