Rafizi S Claims Of Ignored Objections Not True Says Pkr Election Panel
The committee’s deputy chairman says PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli should have been aware of the rules on complaints.
Ahmad Kasim, who heads the complaints bureau, said every important development in the party elections was reported to the central leadership.PETALING JAYA: PKR’s election committee has denied deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s claims that hundreds of objections filed by members during the party’s divisional elections were ignored
The committee’s deputy chairman, Ahmad Kasim, said Rafizi’s claims were not true and were regrettable. He said serious attention was given to every complaint and objection filed, which were handled in a professional and just manner.
Ahmad, who chairs the committee’s complaints bureau, said the rules for this year’s party elections were approved by the PKR central leadership on Feb 23 and confirmed by the political bureau on March 3.
Rafizi is a member of both of these decision-making bodies, Ahmad said.
“The rules clearly outline that every objection or appeal must come with sufficient evidence, and that the burden of proof is on the party submitting the objection or appeal,” Ahmad said in a statement.
“Throughout the party elections, we received 289 objections and complaints involving various stages of the polling process, including nominations, appeals, the finalised list of candidates, campaigning and the polling process.
“All of these complaints were studied carefully and some of them were referred to the party secretary-general’s office and disciplinary board for further action.”
Yesterday, Rafizi accused PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa of ignoring hundreds of objections filed by members and that the panel only started going through the objections after the polls were over.
He also claimed that grassroots members who filed complaints were looked down on by the election committee.
Ahmad said the committee was still acting on some of the complaints, but promised that an official response would be given soon.
He also said every important development in the 2025 PKR elections was periodically reported to the leadership council. “It is impossible for any member of the council to be unaware of this, including Rafizi.”
Ahmad also defended Zaliha, saying she had led the election committee with dedication and professionalism.
“The committee will continue to carry out its responsibility to ensure the central leadership election is conducted in a fair, independent, clean and transparent manner until the new leadership for the 2025-2028 term is elected.” - FMT
