Zaliha Should Sue Those Accusing Her Of Hiding Addendum Kepong Mp
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa should take legal action against those claiming she had concealed the royal addendum ordering Najib Abdul Razak's house arrest, said Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.
In a statement today, Lim said the baseless accusations cannot be left unaddressed as they have tarnished Zaliha's good name and challenged the government's integrity.
“Zaliha should consider legal action, including defamation suits, against individuals or parties involved in spreading such baseless accusations.
“This is vital in protecting her reputation and ensuring that the truth is upheld,” he said.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha MustafaLim said once the matter is in court, the Prime Minister’s Department’s Legal Affairs Division can be summoned to testify in its capacity as the Pardons Board’s secretariat so that facts regarding the addendum issue can be ascertained.
This is to counter any allegations that the addendum or any other official order from Istana Negara was received by the Legal Affairs Division, he said.
“It is hoped that the court’s decision on the matter can untangle issues surrounding the addendum’s validity and stop any speculation that can threaten the country’s stability,” Lim added.
Addendum poser
Zaliha is a member of the Federal Territories Pardons Board, which convened on Jan 29, 2024, and granted Najib a partial pardon over his power abuse, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering conviction in the SRC International case involving RM42 million.
The former prime minister’s sentence was commuted from 12 years' imprisonment and an RM210 million fine to six years and RM50 million.
Najib and his supporters claimed that former Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who presided over the Pardons Board meeting, had attached a royal addendum ordering him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
Last week, the Court of Appeal granted Najib's appeal against a High Court decision to deny him judicial review leave to compel the government to confirm the addendum's existence and enforce it.
The former prime minister’s legal team submitted a letter from the Pahang palace confirming the addendum’s existence to support his appeal.
Umno, PAS, and Bersatu politicians have since accused the government and related officials, including Zaliha, of conspiring to hide the addendum, which they have strongly denied. - Mkini
