Opposition Pans Anwar For Hiding Royal Addendum Urges Him To Resign
Following the Court of Appeal’s decision today, opposition leaders have accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of concealing a royal addendum that purportedly allowed Najib Abdul Razak to serve his sentence under house arrest.
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin emphasised that the prime minister is bound by his oath of loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Federal Constitution.
“Any act of defiance, concealment, or denial of a royal decree constitutes a grave treason against the monarchy and the nation,” he stated.
The Court of Appeal has granted the former premier’s appeal to commence a judicial review at the High Court, seeking to compel the government to enforce an alleged royal decree issued by the previous Agong.
A letter from the Pahang palace, submitted to the court, confirmed the addendum’s existence.
Hamzah (above) asserted that the court’s ruling proved deliberate concealment of the royal addendum by certain parties, accusing them of betraying the candour principle that the government is obligated to uphold.
“It is inconceivable that a prime minister would be unaware of the Agong’s supplementary decree.
“The prime minister bears full responsibility for executing any royal decrees, including the royal addendum,” he added.
‘Anwar should resign’
Echoing Hamzah’s stance, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari called for Anwar’s resignation, claiming the government’s actions represent a serious violation of Najib’s right to a fair trial and justice.
“The denial of the royal decree’s existence reflects the government’s dishonesty in addressing issues of justice and individual rights.
“This not only tarnishes the nation’s judicial system but also raises significant questions about the integrity of national leadership,” he said in a statement.
Ahmad Fadhli ShaariFadhli further accused the government of manipulating facts and withholding the truth from the public.
“The prime minister must take full responsibility for this crisis of trust and step down immediately in an honourable manner,” he urged.
He called on Malaysians to remain vigilant and ensure that political manipulation does not dominate the justice system.
“Following this court ruling, the current government has lost its authority and credibility to govern.
“Therefore, the prime minister is urged to resign promptly to preserve the dignity and stability of the nation,” Fadhli concluded. - Mkini
