Zaliha Muda Immature To Call For My Sacking Over Najib S Reduced Sentence
Zaliha Mustafa has dubbed Muda’s call for her to be sacked following former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s reduced jail term as “immature”.
The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) pointed out that the decision made by the Pardons Board to reduce Najib’s sentence was a collective one, and thus, it was not fair if the wrath was channelled against her.
“[I think] it’s a personal opinion... we have to see that the decision taken was by the Pardons Board - collective.
“If (the attacks) are directed toward me on this, to me, it’s immature,” the Sekijang MP told reporters after attending a function in Kuala Lumpur last night, according to Berita Harian Online.
Yesterday, the Pardons Board announced that it had reduced Najib's jail time from 12 years to six.
This means Najib would be released from prison on Aug 23, 2028.
In a meeting on Jan 29, the board also slashed the fine slapped on the former prime minister from RM210 million to RM50 million.
‘Only board can answer’
Following this, Muda called for Zaliha to be sacked from the cabinet, given that she is a member of the Pardons Board, representing the government in the Federal Territories.
Asked whether the board would provide the rationale behind Najib’s sentence reduction, Zaliha said that she was not empowered to answer the question.
“Only the board can answer any questions regarding a person, I cannot say more than that,” she reportedly said.
Following the announcement, Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa expressed disappointment that her father did not get a full pardon and immediate release from prison.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that Najib may appeal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar if he is dissatisfied with his reduced sentence granted by the Pardons Board. - Mkini
