Zahid Tells Umno To Save Itself From Enemies Within

(Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: The restoration of Umno’s strength must take priority instead of the party serving the wishes of enemies within who will not stop testing the party’s unity until it breaks, says Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Speaking in an interview with RTM, he said Umno members at every level should use political wisdom and practise ethics in efforts to strengthen the party.
Umno members should reflect and unite in their thinking and efforts to restore the clout of the party that used to be the tower of strength for the race, religion and nation, said Zahid.
The Umno-led Barisan Nasional suffered the worst defeat in their political history when they won only 30 of 178 seats contested at the general election in November.
“Let us reflect, practise self-criticism on what had been done, not point fingers at just one person. Many people were responsible, I know very well that what had happened is a high price that we have to pay for the lack of unity in our thinking,” he said.
Zahid said Umno divisions will hold simultaneous meetings this year and focus on elections at the divisional and central levels. No dates for the meetings were given, but he said the 2023 Umno general assembly will be held in the middle of this year.
The 2022 general assembly, postponed because of the general election, is scheduled to take place from Jan 11-14. - FMT
