Youth Ministry Rallying Gamers To Join Survey For Policy Crafting
The Youth and Sports Ministry is rallying Malaysians who are active in e-sports games to participate in an online survey aimed at gathering data and views about the e-sports ecosystem in the country.
According to a statement issued, Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the results of the survey will be utilised by the ministry to draft future policies and strategies and drive e-sports like an arrowhead.
“A comprehensive study of the local e-sports ecosystem is essential to gain deep insight and find critical information which was previously unknown, as well as to ensure that all decisions made are data-driven.
“Looking at (current) Malaysian e-sports players who continue to achieve success at the regional and international levels, it is important to look inward to gauge the growth potential of the Malaysian market and its future impact on the economy and the development of youth and sports,” she said.
According to the statement, research through the E-sports Integrated initiative and the Malaysian Institute of Youth Research Institute, which was launched from December 2022 to February 2023, will target the collection of demographic and psychographic information (on e-sports players) and the financial impact on sports fans.
The survey will then be followed by the formation of a technical working group consisting of local e-sport experts and stakeholders in March for the purpose of focus-group discussions, to understand the ecosystem on a deeper and technical level, the statement said.
The online questionnaire is open to all Malaysian gamers who are interested in e-sports or who have played any e-sports games and can be accessed here.
