Yoursay Kudos To Nik Nazmi For Speaking Up But Where S Anwar
YOURSAY | ‘The PM is just maintaining a nonchalant silence.’
Nik Nazmi: 'Threats to Islam' claims mere attempts to fire up sentiments
Darmakochi: Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, you have said it very well.
You gained my respect by saying this very timely statement when quite a number of racial and religious bigots are constantly using 3R-related issues to gain political support.
Even Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, from whom we expect some responses many a time, is just maintaining a nonchalant silence while non-Malays like me have to put up with these bigots daily.
Just based on the population of the different races, how can non-Malays be a threat to Malay Muslims?
These people who stir up problems should grow up and do something positive and good for our multiracial nation.
BlackMouse3305: The federal minister’s assertion highlights a recurring tactic in political strategy where religion is leveraged to manipulate public sentiment and gain support.
Claims of “threats to Islam” are often weaponised by certain parties to polarise communities, divert attention from substantive issues, and undermine moderate voices like Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
This divisive rhetoric threatens national unity, exploits religious sensitivities, and stifles progress.
Anwar's perceived shortcomings further underscore the need for moderate Muslim leaders to champion inclusivity, counter extremism, and reinforce Malaysia’s multicultural ethos.
Constructive dialogue and responsible leadership are vital to fostering harmony and addressing real societal challenges.
Gerard Lourdesamy: The solution is simple. I invite Muslims not to read Yeoh’s autobiography and not to attend Christmas celebrations in any manner or form whatsoever and howsoever arising in whatever circumstances and context.
To impose what in effect amounts to an unreasonable restriction on the rights of Christians offends Articles 3, 5, 8, 11, and 136 of the Federal Constitution.
It is baffling that a 63 percent majority can feel threatened by a 9.2 percent minority.
The statement by some PAS leaders on this issue would seem to suggest that some Muslims have such weak faith to the extent that the sight of a Christmas tree or hearing a secular Christmas song may induce some of them to convert to Christianity.
VS: We are blessed as we have some intelligent people like Niz Nazmi who act with dignity in government, instead of some of these half-baked politicians who are out there to create disunity and disturb the harmony in the country.
They are there for the wrong reasons: to safeguard their selfish self-interest. They are there to play the race and religion cards, but the people are not fooled easily.
Undecided: It may not be a good option for anyone who supports DAP even if Anwar speaks out on this issue.
It will only give the opposition what they want badly - for Anwar to take the side of DAP so that it undermines Pakatan Harapan’s strategy of getting the support of Malay Muslims.
It will give the bigots a reason to continue their attacks on the government more effectively.
Now that Nik Nazmi has spoken out, it should be sufficient to satisfy those critics that no Muslim Minister has spoken out in defence of DAP.
Just a Malaysian @ Undecided: Anwar must make a stand. He did not and probably hopes it is just a one-off case.
But those making “threats to Islam” claims view this as an endorsement and grow more toxic.
Do you know how painful it is as a loyal Malaysian-born Chinese person, working hard and paying lots of taxes to hear that toxic rhetoric?
I deal with Malays on the ground. They are not all like these politicians.
This nation is being pulled apart. We need a strong hand to guide us.
Falcon: Those who are manufacturing controversies targeting minorities are well known to the authorities. And they use that very potent weapon - religion, namely here.
Their allegations and claims are lies. To this day, no action has been taken against them. The reason is obvious! It’s cowardice of the highest standards.
As such, the herd managers and pied pipers are getting away while minorities carry fear in their hearts.
Fears that they never felt in the past as citizens of the country, but are now real! If those in power cannot or will not acknowledge this toxicity due to political expediency, what is left?
Fair Play: Can they think logically and collectively? Islam is the religion of the federation. They are the majority community, accounting for some 65 percent of the nation’s population.
Politically, are their politicians so bankrupt of ability and creative ideas to uplift their community status and instead resort to using the minority as their bogeymen to hide their incompetence as leaders of their community?
Steven Ong: Face the fact that Anwar, as the prime minister, also used the race and religion card in his administration.
If one were to carefully watch his words and silence in the different places he visited, one would see his 3R card being displayed clearly.
His silence on certain issues affecting the minorities and the DAP also hints that he is not the prime minister for all Malaysians, but rather a prime minister to safeguard his position by manipulating the 3R issues.
Methink: Where is the National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang in all this?
Seems everyone is doing his job except him. Abolish this unity minister position as this is an example of a “kakistocracy” government.
