Woman In Video Denies Being Shamsul S Proxy As Macc Pursues Her
The woman accused of being a proxy to Shamsul Iskandar Akin denied the matter in a video published last night.
While she admitted to meeting businessperson Albert Tei, Sofia Rini Buyong accused the former of spreading lies and slander against her.
“I stress here that I’m not a proxy to Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar.
“And I must clarify that I’ve never met or had any discussions with PMX (Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim) in regard to the allegations made by Albert,” Sofia mentioned.
On Nov 25, Tei implicated Shamsul, who was a senior political secretary to Anwar before resigning recently, in the Sabah mining scandal.
The businessperson alleged that he spent RM629,000 on Shamsul after being assured that he could recoup the money channelled to politicians in Sabah.

Shamsul Iskandar AkinTei claimed that he was introduced to Shamsul by a woman, whom he said was the then-political aide’s proxy. Their first meeting took place on Nov 8, 2023, at about 10pm at the Jesselton Cigaro cigar lounge in Kota Kinabalu.
In a video that surfaced on Tuesday evening, the woman claimed Shamsul asked MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki to “ease his case”.
The woman said that Shamsul met with Azam, as the former was implicated in the Sabah scandal and was summoned by the MACC chief.
Later in the video, when the woman was asked by Tei whether Shamsul told the MACC chief that the Sabah scandal recordings were “PMX’s orders”, the woman replied: “Azam knows”.
Shamsul had since lodged a police report against Tei and vowed to defend himself.
‘Peddling his narrative’
On that note, Sofia also claimed that she has never held any discussions with Shamsul in relation to mining licences.
Touching on her meeting with Tei, Sofia claimed it was planned by the former, with the eye-to-eye meeting being recorded without her knowledge.

Albert Tei“The meeting actually lasted more than one hour. In the process, Tei repeated his narrative and goaded me into agreeing to his narrative.
“This looks like a conspiracy to smear PM Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar’s names.
“It also looks like a plan to unseat the government in an undemocratic way,” Sofia added.
She also dismissed accusations that there were funds given to Shamsul on the mining licences, which were said could be recouped later, claiming they never had any discussions on the matter.
“I have consulted my lawyer and the police, and I urge the authorities to investigate the matter under Section 499 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act against Albert and the person behind him,” Sofia added.
‘Astounding shamelessness’
In an immediate response, Tei said that Sofia did not really deny what she said in the meeting.
“Note, she doesn’t claim that the video is fake or AI. It is not Albert who says those things, she does,” he said in a statement.
Tei also took shots at Shamsul over his police report, saying the latter’s shamelessness is astounding.
“He is the one who assigned his proxy to deal with me, asked for money, took the money on his behalf, made an appointment for our meeting, and confirmed the entire arrangement, and now he’s reporting me? Make it make sense, Shamsul,” said the businessperson.
He also pointed out that Shamsul never once mentioned that he had not taken money from him.
“Instead, he hides behind dramatic statements and police reports, hoping everyone forgets that his proxy openly admitted everything.
“Why attack me when the claim came from your side?” Tei asked.
Meanwhile, MACC confirmed that they are tracking down Sofia and urged her to present herself to the anti-graft agency’s office on Dec 1 to record her statement.
The agency said Sofia’s statement is important in relation to the investigations now being conducted against Shamsul.
“We have also contacted Albert Tei and urged him to present himself at our office to record his statement on the same day,” MACC said in a statement. - Mkini
