Last night AS asked me why someone who has been accused of indulging in unlawful activities, money laundering, promoting religious hatred and denied a visa to the United Kingdom and Canada, been living in Malaysia for the past three years? Why AS asked me, has Zakir Naik been given permanent residence in Malaysia
This is what I told her
Umno, PAS and any Muslim leader in Malaysia have a need for a Zakir Naik. Zakir Naik can draw crowds in the tens of thousands of Muslims to his public lecture. Zakir Naik can do Dakwah work (propagation of the Islamic religion) better than Umno, Pas or any other Muslim leader in Malaysia. If ever there is a need to draw the Muslims together in Malaysia and made them ready for a Jihad against non-Muslims, Zakir Naik can do that better than anybody else
Zakir Naik can whip the Muslims into a frenzy against the non-Muslims. And once whipped into a frenzy, these Muslims can then be unleashed to run amok and do whatever it is that Umno, Pas or any Muslim leader in Malaysia would want to do to the non-Muslims. Zakir Naik can work his “magic” and “persuade” Muslims that the proper thing to do is for Muslims to support Muslims unconditionally. And all this and more Umno, Pas and any other Muslim leader will want to do if that is what is needed to maintain political hegemony over all things Malaysians. They can use Zakir to do their dirty deeds for them
And that, I told AS, is why Zakir Naik will not be leaving Malaysia for a while
