(FMT) – Ti Lian Ker contrasts the lack of action against the Umno Youth chief with the probe into Lim Kit Siang.
A senator has asked why Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has yet to be investigated for sedition after posting a picture of himself holding a sword on Facebook.
Akmal had posted the picture, taken during a recent trip to Japan, on March 14.
The picture was captioned: “No matter what, we will not waver from our stance. Better to die standing than live kneeling.”
“Why was Akmal not investigated or warned, even though DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang was interrogated simply for translating the constitution?
“One of the offences in the Sedition Act is uttering words that can provoke hatred between races,” Ti Lian Ker said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In December last year, Bukit Aman confirmed that it would take Lim’s statement following comments he had made on his blog about whether a non-Malay can become the prime minister.
Criminal investigation department deputy director Rosdi Isa said Lim had touched on constitutional issues.
Lim meanwhile said he had been accused of provocation but maintained that this was not his intention.
In his X post, Ti shared a video of him speaking in the Dewan Negara about the incitement of racial tensions through social media, particularly involving figures associated with political parties such as PKR and Bersatu.
“A figure has not only incited or been seen as inciting (tensions), but there are also pictures of swords being carried.
“I feel this is indeed incitement. The police need to be called upon to investigate or warn such figures so that their actions do not become an example for the public to follow,” he said.
He added that divisions in society are likely to occur if the Sedition Act is not enforced.
