Probe Papers On Pas Trio With Prosecutors
The investigation papers into three PAS MPs, including party president Abdul Hadi Awang, over claims made by the elected representatives have been referred to prosecutors.
(FMT) – This concerns Hadi’s claim that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were at the root of corruption and Permatang Pauh MP Fawwaz Jan’s alleged inflammatory statements against non-Muslims.
One other probe paper involved Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad’s claim that DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, his father Lim Kit Siang and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok were related to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader, Chin Peng, and also the late former Singapore prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the probe paper on Hadi, the Marang MP, had been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
“Meanwhile, the investigation paper related to the police report against the Permatang Pauh MP has been referred to the Penang prosecution office and is still being studied by them.
“For the case involving the Kepala Batas MP, the investigation paper has been referred to the AGC,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.
On Aug 20, 2022, Hadi wrote a Facebook post that put the focus on non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras as being the majority involved in corruption, leading to police reports being filed against the PAS president.
He said corruption stemmed from those who reaped profit through illegal means, adding that the majority of those involved in ruining the country’s politics and economy were “in fact” non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras.
Mastura, on the other hand, had claimed during a ceramah on Nov 4 that Kit Siang was a cousin of Chin Peng and Lee, and that Kok was a cousin of Betty Chew, Guan Eng’s wife.
Her claim has led to a suit by the three DAP figures. In her statement of defence, Mastura defended her allegations as being based on political sources that she believed to be legitimate.
Fawwaz was probed over a Facebook post in January where he was alleged to have claimed that infidels were working to “bring down Islam”.
However, not long after that, he issued a statement apologising for the post, saying that it was uploaded by his Facebook administrator.
