Instead, Malaysia has jinn-catcher, Sa’ad Jafar, 47, who claims he can send spirits packing without even being on the site of the supernatural occurrences. According to Sa’ad, his rituals are performed in his own treatment centre
“All our treatments are conducted using WhatsApp. We don’t have to meet as we can do everything from a distance. As far as Dubai and India in fact,” he told FMT
Sa’ad said that tales of the supernatural were nothing new to him, and that it was really up to the individual if they wanted to believe in their existence or not
“If it isn’t Muslim clients who come seeking my services to expel evil spirits, it’s the Indians,” he said
He related to FMT how he got his first Indian client back in 2015 because of a sticker he had placed on his car advertising his services
“I was driving when suddenly some Indian motorists gestured for me to stop. Naturally, I panicked. I thought I was in trouble
“As it turned out, they only wanted to know how to get rid of a jinn tormenting their family. So that was how I started accruing my Indian clientele.”A civil servant by day, Sa’ad attends to his supernatural business when night falls
Sa’ad explains that his friend and partner Mohd Azmin Adam, 49, ventured into this unusual line of work only because they sincerely wanted to help restore peace in the homes of clients who were allegedly harassed by jinns and ghosts on a daily basis

It’s virtually impossible to get a good night’s sleep. You’re in a waking nightmare and by midnight the terror is indescribable. Supernatural occurrences tend to happen then.”“Because of this, I studied with the intention of helping these unfortunate souls, and I help solve their problems through the iLahana treatment, a kind of distance healing.”Sa’ad however clarified that this was not his initial purpose in life. His calling was borne out of a personal experience that changed the course of his life forever
He related how he had experienced his fair share of encounters with the supernatural and that it was only after he had successfully driven out the spirits that he realised he had a gift and could help others in the same situation
When asked about his “First in the World” tagline, Sa’ad said he stood by it because he was sure no one else on earth could do what he does
“I use that tagline because I really am the only person in the world who can capture jinns from afar. This isn’t easy work as jinns gather in groups, thousands of jinn in a single area that I will have to capture.”“I don’t just chase them away. I trap them and hold them in a prison which I make myself in the other world,” he said
According to Sa’ad, he was successful in stopping the Kelantan floods in December last year. He explained that the waters receded only after he can trapped the jinns responsible for it
Capturing the jinns is a long and tough ordeal and that is why Sa’ad can only work with one client at a time. It is also a prerequisite that a client pays up first before any work begins
“We have many patients. They have to make an appointment with us first, but we don’t have to meet face-to-face as we will only be communicating via WhatsApp.”“We only charge a fee of RM200. I think the price is in line with what we do. We perform our rituals in the middle of the night after prayers and worship. Another person and myself will see our work through to completion.” - FMT
