Where Are The 150 000 Student Laptops Under Budget 2021 Mp Asks

Lembah Pantai MP has questioned the progress the government has made in delivering 150,000 laptops to students as promised under Budget 2021.
Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, when tabling Budget 2021, had said that GLCs and GLICs would contribute RM150 million into Cerdik fund to provide 150,000 laptops to students in 500 schools in a pilot project overseen by Yayasan Hasanah.
Fahmi (above), however, said there has been no news on whether the laptops had been delivered even though the school year has already started.
"Almost all students have to do online learning (due to) the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) which may be extended several times, yet we have not heard about these laptops being handed over," he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
As such, Fahmi asked Tengku Zafrul to explain when the laptops would be handed over, and also what specifications of the laptops that will be given, who the vendors are, and whether there will be an open tender.
Fahmi said these are the kind of questions that can be asked in Parliament - which is now suspended due to a state of emergency being declared.

Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching
Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching had also raised similar questions to the Education Ministry on Monday.
Teo said a survey by the ministry between March and April last year found that 36.9 percent of students did not possess any device to follow online lessons with.
She also called on the Education Ministry to make hardcopy textbooks available for students who don't have access to digital versions.
"Even for those with a digital device, prolonged usage of digital devices is not advisable for young children.
"Therefore, the parents and students should be given the option to collect textbooks from school for their home-based learning," she said.
Under the MCO 2.0, only students facing exams such as SPM for the 2020 batch, are allowed to attend physical classes.

The rest of the students must do home-based learning. - Mkini
