Selangor Aims For The Sky With 10 000 New Jobs
Amirudin Shari says the state plans an integrated manpower database that would include a skills framework so training can be provided.SHAH ALAM: The state government will provide 10,000 jobs under the Selangor Career Initiative to tackle unemployment because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a RM50 million allocation for the purpose.
Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said jobs will be matched according to skills, through profiling and upskilling over three years.
He said a large percentage of the jobs will come from the aerospace industry because much of the state’s income came from companies like GE Engine Services Sdn Bhd, Aerobus Malaysia and UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd – all operating in Selangor.
“This makes Selangor the main aerospace hub in Malaysia. By satisfying the industry’s manpower needs, the state can retain and expand the sector.
“Selangor is keen to attract high-value industry investment and offer high-skilled jobs which will improve remuneration and create a high income society,’’ he told Bernama.
“We’re aiming for 2,000 jobs to be filled this year by tertiary graduates, secondary school leavers – as well as those who have had vocational training – and laid off workers.
“They will undergo an online training programme with their employer for a year to polish up their talents and skills.
“There will also be mentoring to help them fit in,’’ he said during the virtual launch of the initiative on the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor) Facebook platform today.
Amirudin said the state government also plans to build an integrated manpower database that would include a skills framework for the aerospace industry so that appropriate training could be provided.
Meanwhile, Amirudin is inviting job seekers and employers to register for the Selangor Career Initiative at www. selangorkerjaya.com.my. - FMT
