Over Rm40 000 Collected Medical Student Says Big Thank You To Readers

J Kirroshnie helping her father, who suffered a stroke and can no longer work.PETALING JAYA: Medical student J Kirroshnie is overwhelmed by the generosity shown by FMT readers after her plight was published yesterday, and says people can stop donating.
Just a day ago, she was worried she would not be be able to fulfil her dreams of becoming a doctor due to family hardship but readers have raised over RM40,000 for her to complete her studies.
An overwhelmed Kirroshnie said she was thankful to FMT readers for letting her pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
“The response has been amazing,” Kirroshnie told FMT. “I really appreciate the efforts made by all the Malaysians who have sent help.
“To see this all happen so quickly has been unbelievable. It’s honestly been like magic.”
The response was so fast in fact that her bank thought something had gone wrong.
“My account got frozen, which has never happened to me before.
“People were calling me and saying that they couldn’t bank money in.”
With the burden of her financial strife now off her shoulders, Kirroshnie said she can now focus on the remainder of her studies in a better frame of mind.
While still slightly short of her goal, she’s told readers to stop donating, as she will strive to raise the rest on her own.
“This is already more than I could’ve hoped for. People can stop sending money now. I think I can handle it from here.
“I really want to thank all the people who have chipped in to help so far. It’s really meant so much to me and my family.”
Her university fees had been a constant struggle for her ever since her first year in 2017 when her father suffered a stroke that left him unable to work as a medical representative for a pharmaceutical company.
Since then, they had relied on money her mother made selling books at schools and her father’s disability allowance.
Having exhausted options like student loans and restructuring her payment plan, Kirroshnie was beginning to lose hope.
She had arrears in fees of RM30,000, and had to pay her tuition fee of RM45,000 for 2021. - FMT
