Warisan Vows To Cure Sabah S Three In One Disease Starting With Water
Warisan has pledged to address what many call Sabah’s “three-in-one disease”, beginning with the state’s chronic water woes within its first year in government if it is returned to power.
In Sabah politics, the phrase “penyakit tiga serangkai” (three-in-one disease) is a metaphor used to describe the state’s enduring problems of water, roads and electricity.
Party president Shafie Apdal said Sabah is not short of raw water but is crippled by poor distribution and insufficient treatment capacity.
“I give my guarantee - within one year after forming the government, we will solve the water problem in Sabah. It’s not that water is lacking. The capacity for treatment and the distribution network must be fixed.
“Pipes are leaking, plants are not enough, and tankers are selling water while taps have no water,” Shafie told reporters at the party headquarters in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday.
He said resolving water supply issues would be the first step towards curing the wider malaise. Roads and electricity supply, he added, would also be improved in stages to restore public confidence.

“Execution matters. Once we say it, we must deliver,” Shafie stressed.
Umno veteran shifts camp
In another development, Shafie revealed that former Liawan assemblyperson Sairin Karno had joined Warisan.
Sairin, 71, is a veteran politician with strong grassroots support in Keningau and was once a long-time Umno stalwart. He represented Liawan from 2004 to 2018, holding assistant ministerial portfolios in rural development as well as agriculture and food industry.
After Umno’s fall in 2018, he briefly joined Bersatu and later Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan). Until recently, he was chairperson of Sabah Umno Veterans.
“People see Warisan as the platform that unites Sabahans beyond race and background,” Shafie said.
Shafie also reiterated that Warisan would contest the state election independently, saying the party’s only pact is with “the people”, not with other political groups.
His remarks followed reports that Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) president Jeffrey Kitingan was open to working with other parties, including Warisan, after Star’s expulsion from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah last week.
“Our cooperation is with the people of Sabah, not with political parties. It is not Star, not GRS or anyone else who will decide who governs. It is the rakyat,” he said. - Mkini
