Of the total, 10 units will be allocated specifically for young couples starting next year.
“In the past, there were only four or five PPRT houses. But this year, we are building 40 Rumah Mesra SMJ units, and next year, we will increase it to 50 units in every constituency for the less fortunate. The additional 10 units will be for newlyweds who are struggling and still living with their families,” Hajiji said.
He was speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sabah Housing and Town Development Authority (LPPB) housing and shoplot project at Kampung Taka here on Saturday.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the project would bring significant benefits to the local community by creating job opportunities and stimulating business activities.
Hajiji said the 37.6-acre development, owned by LPPB, would comprise 320 housing units — including single-storey semi-detached and terrace houses — along with 171 shop units, a superstore, showrooms and kiosks.
He called for the project to be implemented in an orderly manner and according to schedule, noting that public-private cooperation was crucial to the success of such initiatives.
“This approach not only helps reduce the government’s financial burden but also allows public funds to be channelled towards other socio-economic and infrastructure projects for the people’s well-being,” he said.
Hajiji reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equitable development across all districts, including Pitas, highlighting numerous initiatives introduced over the past five years to uplift the area.
At the event, Hajiji also announced several new projects for Pitas, including the construction of a mini sports complex, a RM1 million public bus terminal, and a RM1.4 million cultural house at Dataran Pitas.
He also pledged to revive the abandoned prawn farming project — a joint venture between Yayasan Sabah and a private firm — to create employment opportunities, and said he would discuss with the Sabah Forest Development Authority (SAFODA) the possibility of releasing land requested by local residents.
During the same ceremony, Hajiji presented 468 land titles covering 1,273.432 hectares to recipients, including 228 under the Program Pengukuran Anak Negeri Sabah (PANTAS), 239 Native Titles (NT), and one for the Pitas police station site. — The Borneo Post
