KOTA KINABALU: Sepanggar MP Azis Jamman said he decided against defending his youth chief’s post in the upcoming Warisan elections to make way for a fresh face.
Azis said he wanted Warisan to undergo a “regeneration” and that he had informed party president Shafie Apdal of his decision.
“A regeneration of the party is required, so we need to be bold and produce new leaders, and it starts with me,” he told FMT.
The contest for the post will now see a straight fight between Ismail Ayob and Tsabbit Aqdamana Abd Mukti.

Azis said his decision took into account the lowering of the voting age from 21 to 18 since last December.
In March, it was revealed that Malaysia has 1,441,794 voters aged between 18 and 20.
“Which is why I decided to let go of the post. It had nothing to do with personal interest, but it was for the cause and also to prepare for the coming 15th general election,” he said.
Azis was named the youth chief at Warisan’s elections in 2019 after he was returned uncontested.
He also said he would not be contesting for any of the other posts in the party, but declined to elaborate.
The party polls are set to take place on Aug 26 and 27.
Previously, Shafie Apdal and Darell Leiking had retained the presidency and deputy presidency uncontested, respectively.
Jaujan Sambakong, Junz Wong and Terrence Siambun were also retained as vice-presidents without contest. - FMT
