Wan Fayhsal Urges Govt To Avoid Sin Of Not Tabling Syariah Amendments

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has urged the government to table the proposed amendments of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) to “avoid the sin” of not doing its job.
Taking to Facebook, Wan Fayhsal claimed that the proposed amendments were necessary as they would restore the image of syariah courts after several parties challenged its authority.
“I fully support PAS and Perikatan Nasional in calling on the government to table the act soon so that our sin is not borne for not practising syariah law,” he said.
Once the amendment is read, he said the matter can be discussed in the Dewan Rakyat where MPs can debate and vote.
“It is time for the syariah courts to be viewed highly and seriously by Malaysians and especially Muslims,” he added.
Pipe down, non-Muslims
Wan Fayhsal, who is the PN Youth chief, also told non-Muslims to stay out of Islamic affairs.
“The syariah law is only applicable to Muslims. The non-Muslims can refer to the civil court if there are any disputes involving crime.
“(Therefore, non-Muslims) don’t simply make statements that could cause uneasiness among the Malays and Muslims,” he added.
He is believed to be referring to a statement made earlier by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism (MCCBCHST) opposing the proposed amendments.
On Friday, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan told the interfaith group not to meddle in the matter.
He questioned if they were being “busybodies” for commenting on a matter that does not affect non-Muslims. - Mkini
