Wan Fayhsal Slammed Over Blatant Lie In Putra Heights Fire

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal must immediately apologise and retract a "false and malicious" statement concerning the Putra Heights fire and the government's aid to victims, said Amanah secretary-general Faiz Fadzil.
Faiz zeroed in on Wan Fayhsal's (above) allegation that the fire had claimed lives and that the RM5,000 cash aid from the government to victims was an "insult".
"This (that the fire had claimed lives) is a blatant lie, as the authorities have already said there had not been any fatalities so far. Wan Fayhsal's false statement is regrettable.
"In that same statement, Wan Fayhsal claimed that the RM5,000 in government aid to victims was inadequate and an 'insult'. This was malicious and gave the impression that the Madani government only gave a maximum of RM5,000.
"This is also false, as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on April 1 that the government will help with repairs and replacement of homes damaged or destroyed by the fire. I want to ask Wan Fayhsal, do new homes cost only RM5,000?" Faiz said in a statement.
Don’t exploit tragedy
Faiz demanded that the Bersatu supreme council member retract his statement and issue an open apology to the government and all victims of the fire as he had spread false information.
He added that Wan Fayhsal should engage in mature politics instead of exploiting a tragedy.
Wan Fayhsal made the claims in an April 4 statement posted on his Facebook.
A major fire involving a Petronas gas line at 8.10am on April 1 saw flames shooting more than 30m into the air, with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius, transforming the surrounding landscape into a large crater.
The inferno caused widespread damage in a 500m radius, destroying 87 homes and damaging 148 others. Authorities have identified 308 families involving 1,254 victims affected by the fire. - Mkini
