No Construction Nearby On Day Of Putra Heights Fire Cidb
No construction activities were conducted yesterday when a gas pipeline fire broke out in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, said the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
Citing a report from the contractors involved at a construction site 30m away from the pipeline, CIDB said it was informed that only sewerage work was carried out on March 30 while housekeeping operations were done the following day.
“The report indicates that no construction work was taking place at the site on April 1 when the gas explosion occurred,” the board said in a statement today.
“However, the case is still under further investigation as CIDB awaits other supporting documents to determine the classification of the incident under Act 520’s scope of compliance.”
It added that at 8.32am yesterday, an assistant project manager had received a phone call from the project engineer informing him of an explosion and fire near the construction site.
CIDB said a local security guard and a foreign worker at the construction site at the time of the incident were then rushed to the hospital due to injuries sustained from the explosion.

Approvals received in 2022
Earlier, Subang Jaya mayor Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim said a development project near the site of the fire had received legal approvals in 2022.
The mayor added that the project had obtained approval to access Petronas’ Right of Way (ROW), with the contractors involved being an approved panel recognised by the relevant authorities.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan previously told Malaysiakini that two construction companies are among those being scrutinised by authorities in relation to the recent disaster.
Since the gas pipeline fire broke out, creating a massive blaze visible from several kilometres away, allegations have been rife on social media that the incident was linked with earthworks tied to a construction project nearby.
The police also confirmed that 235 premises and 399 vehicles were affected in the incident, with 59 reports received, including those related to damaged homes and vehicles, injuries, and land issues.
According to Subang Jaya district police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, who spoke to reporters at the scene this morning, the number of victims injured in the incident has increased to 111. - Mkini
